This article arises from a study whose overall purpose was to investigate the relationship between Colombian mathematics teachers’
conceptions of beginning algebra and their conceptions of their own teaching practices. The teachers’ understandings of their teaching practices were explored with a view to unravelling their
conceptions of change in their teaching. Focusing on the perspectives of teachers afforded opportunities that exposed the
powerful role that the teachers’ conceptions of social/institutional factors of teaching played in their conceptions of their
practices. The degree to which the teachers attributed these (external) factors as crucial reasons for what they do in their
teaching was the basis of a categorisation of their conceptions of the crucial determinants of their teaching practices into
three types. The findings are particularly relevant to our understanding of the stability of mathematics teaching approaches
in the Colombian context but have likely implications for a range of international education contexts. Specific implications
for the development of the research into teachers’ conceptions of mathematics and its teaching, and for teacher education
programmes are presented.

This paper uses a case study approach to examine how the heteronormative nature of one middle school setting and classroom environment shapes the climate of safety, support and learning for LGBTQ students when they are engaged in studying a novel with a gay character. Heteronormative environments inform and shape positioning of and by students and teacher, impacting how knowledge is created, processed and applied. LGBTQ literature integrated into the classroom curriculum invites opportunities for possibilities through windows and mirrors for exploration of the world and self. Heteronormativity, positioning and LGBTQ literature thereby become interactive catalysts that create and foreclose possibilities and impossibilities for student learning. Three themes emerged from the study that reveal positioning and possibilities when studying a text with a gay character: (1) the school environment and classroom context positioned students as heterosexual; (2) students and teacher positioned gender performance and sexual identity as other; and (3) while the text acted as both a window and a mirror, the teacher and students consistently framed different, and sometimes contradictory, views for each other. Together, these themes reflect a nested understanding of gender performance and sexual identity that subscribed to heterosexual norms and limited possibilities for LGBTQ students. 相似文献

How shall we understand the signified "community" as in a Pacific Community? Conventional understanding of "community" privileges community understood as diversity, a collective of multiple identifiers of cultures and nations (as in multiculturalism or multinationalism). Postcolonialists, like Stuart Hall and Homi Bhabha, claim that such imaginary is inscribed in "democractic liberalism," suppressing, concealing, and containing the imaginary of "community as difference." In this article, the author calls upon readers to move boldly into the interspace midst these two imaginaries, and claims that though it is a site of ambiguity, ambivalence, and uncertainty, it may be a site of generative possibilities and hope for newness, a site of becoming in struggle. 相似文献

我国现行的农地法律制度存在着一定的历史局限性和诸多缺陷,无法有效地保证农民的利益。形成这些缺陷的原因是多方面的,最重要的是与土地承包经营权的债权性质有关。农地法律制度立法,如果完全脱离现行的土地制度,实行土地私有制或单纯建立农地使用权制度,都不能很好地解决目前土地制度立法面临的困扰。而在现行农地制度的基础上,创设一种适合中国国情的新型永佃权制度,把农村家庭联产承包责任制与永佃权制度有机地进行整合。具有极大的可行性,必将极大地调动广大农民的生产积极性,从而为本世纪大力发展农村社会生产力提供有效的制度保障。因此,有必要在邓小平理论指导下,本着与时俱进的精神,创设适合中国国情的永佃权制度。 相似文献
