This paper reflects upon and connects the findings of two research projects that examined the sexual inequalities experienced by disabled young gay men. Using some of the data for illustrative purposes, we explore the consequences of the dominant heteronormative discursive practices that they experienced within sex education classes. Drawing on Foucault, we explore how the many silences within the particular version of sex education that these young men received resulted in internalized feelings of difference. Furthermore, we argue that such educational experiences construct 'certainties' that do not reflect the realities of young disabled gay men.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, I use the lens of voices and silences to frame my review of research in the field of disability and postsecondary education. I argue that we need to view research in this field as a necessarily political act that seeks to turn voices of silence into voices of change. Researchers therefore need to rethink their role in order to understand how they can use and direct their political voices. In order to persuade researchers to heed my call for more academic activism, adopt the role of a ‘socratic gadfly’ to identify six political areas of research where I argue that voices and silences need more critical examination. In discussing these six areas, I hope to illuminate the implications for ‘genuinely investigative’ research in the future.  相似文献

高中学生在英语课堂上的沉默是一个普遍存在的问题,这在一定程度上影响了课堂教学的有效性。然而,这一普遍存在的问题尚未引起英语教学研究人员和英语教师的注意,或者缺少有效的研究成果。笔者结合多年高中英语教学研究的实践,通过访谈、教学案例分析等方式针对该沉默现象进行了研究。从态度、动机、策略、情感等方面分析了产生这种沉默现象的原因,提出倾听沉默、发现沉默、打破沉默的人性化方法,以期对高中英语教学的改革有所启示。  相似文献

This reflection explores the challenges encountered at the beginnings of a PhD thesis looking at the history of women in the metal trades in Australia. As workers in a traditionally male-dominated industry, initially excluded from both occupations and union membership, these women have been in many ways silenced in the archival record. Confronting and disturbing that silence has been important in the early stages of this project. In doing so, the author has been guided by longstanding scholarship in women’s labour history and more recent explorations in archival studies.  相似文献
