现代社会和谐的理想：政治正义与个人自由的统一

现代社会和谐的理想是政治正义和个人自由的美好契合和有机统一。一方面，以人为本，实现个人自由全面的发展是一个公正社会的最后目的。为了公平正义的社会大可不必牺牲个人自由，同时，个人自由可以检验社会公正。另．一方面，作为自由主体的人发出对公共秩序的需求，政治正义能够提供一种普遍公正和持久稳定的生活秩序，满足人们对稳定生活的秩序期待，也就是说政治正义可以约束和范导个人自由。     

以党的十七大精神为指导构建和谐校园,促进教育学院事业和谐发展

和谐校园建设具有非常重要的意义,可以为社会主义和谐社会建设提供良好的文化氛围,引领并推动社会文明的发展,有利于增强校园创造活力,为社会主义和谐社会建设提供强大的人才支撑。所以,应当坚持以人为本、共建共享、全方位的原则构建和谐校园,具体来说就是要树立以人为本的理念,建立强有力的领导机制,创设公平、公正的制度环境,建立民主管理体系,营造轻松、愉快的民主氛围,构建和谐的校内外关系,建设和谐健康的文化环境,促进和谐校园建设。

‘If they can say it they can write it’: Inclusive pedagogies for senior secondary physical education

Pedagogical practices are fundamental to teachers' work, and in the spaces of schooling impact significantly on students' success and achievement (Evans, J. 1986. Physical Education, Sport and Schooling: Studies in the Sociology of Physical Education. London: Falmer Press.). This is especially the case for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are deeply reliant on schooling for their educational resources. This article explores the interrelationships between pedagogical practices, the physical education curriculum at the senior secondary level and learning by both students and a teacher in a school located in an area of socio-economic disadvantage. Action research investigating a pedagogical redesign of a unit of ‘Skill Acquisition’ is the specific focus. Of key interest are pedagogical practices that incorporated opportunities to learn ‘about’ Skill Acquisition ‘through’ and ‘in’ movement. These practices attempted to develop and apply scientific literacies specific to the human movement sciences, which are important for academic success in senior secondary physical education. Findings reveal high student engagement, increasing utilisation of scientific literacies and application of new learning to life-world situations. We argue that pedagogical practices that integrate learning ‘about’ ‘through’ and ‘in’ movement disrupt default modes of teaching theoretical concepts in physical education, which diminish opportunities for academic success amongst students from low-socio-economic backgrounds.

Accessions: researching,designing higher education

This brief viewpoint piece depicts educational (dis)engagements apparent in researching and (re)designing higher education in and through Accessions. Accessions, a collaborative research-design project, probed at how cultures, climates and conditions of higher education may be reproducing or reshaping social inequalities and divisions. Here, questions are asked about how these might be challenged within and potentially beyond the specific locale of one university campus. This research-design project hopes to enable a critical perspective on issues of ‘participation’, ‘impact’, ‘engagement’ and ‘internationalisation’, where regulations and measures may be resisted and disrupted.     

‘Tidy,toned and fit’: locating healthism within elite athlete programmes

Coaches and athletes have been increasingly inundated with power related ‘truths’ about their bodies, health and performance as they construct their subjectivities. Over the last couple of decades in New Zealand, schools have initiated elite athlete programmes (EAPs) for a select few students based primarily on their athletic ability and fitness levels. Drawing on Gore's techniques of power, my study investigated how healthism and the cult of the body discourses were (re)produced, negotiated and resisted by coaches and elite athletes and how body pedagogies defined and shaped bodies in two high school EAPs. My analysis suggested that ‘toned and fit’ bodies signified responsible athletes compared to ‘fat’ bodies and that elite athletes disciplined their bodies to overcome pain to remain productive. In both EAPs, power circulated at the micro-level of pedagogical practice to normalise and monitor the athletes’ diet, body weight and shape, and reinforced tensions between prudentialism and hedonism.
