Estimating the real growth effects of blockbuster art exhibits: A time series approach

This paper addresses the evaluation of real growth forecasts made by impact studies. Intervention analysis is used to estimate the ex post impact of blockbuster exhibits on economic growth in Jackson, Mississippi (chosen because state and local governments provide regular subsidies to finance the exhibitions). Non-farm employment measures real economic growth and dummy variables capture the occurrence of the exhibitions. Univariate time series techniques identify and estimate a stationary process after filtering the data for seasonal and cyclical effects. The analysis estimates the short run impact on Jackson’s filtered employment series due to the blockbuster exhibitions as approximately 700 jobs.

Electronic resources are common in academic libraries. Focus is being placed on ways to provide users with easy access and accomplish tasks at the same time. When e-journals first arrived, libraries created workflows that followed the path of a print journal. These workflows were effective for a while, but are now breaking down. Libraries performed review and analysis to discover problems, and created new workflows. They have learned that workflows need to be constantly reviewed, analyzed, and updated to identify inefficiencies and eliminate them. Libraries must be willing to devote time and energy to maintain effective workflows to prepare for the future. A summary will be provided of one library's transition from a print to an electronic environment and the steps taken to maintain effective workflows through the years. The early days of cloud computing are here and libraries are taking first steps into the cloud. Workflows must be evaluated before moving into the cloud. Migration should be carefully structured for the move. Libraries are witnessing the benefits of the cloud environment. This article will discuss the benefits of maintaining effective workflows in the cloud. Readers will learn about a journey into the cloud with Ex Libris' Alma system.

家事诉讼是包括人事诉讼程序在内的,隶属于家事裁判制度的一种构建于家庭成员身份关系基础之上的诉讼程序。家事案件所具有的公益性及当事人之间的家庭亲情等特性,决定了家事诉讼目的不只是为了家事诉讼活动的顺利进行,而是希望通过单独的家事诉讼程序来达到妥善解决家庭纠纷、确保家庭和睦的目标;决定了国家检察机关也应参与家事诉讼程序;决定了家事诉讼应采用职权主义诉讼模式,对此诉讼模式的采用不仅可以在更大程度上利于法官能够较为适宜地控制家事诉讼的进程,且更能确保家事诉讼对实体公正价值的需求。     

Wrangling Cats: A Case Study of a Library Consortium Migration

The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a consortium of thirty-seven public and private academic institutions in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. In January 2012, the Alliance began a two-year process of migrating all thirty-seven institutions to a single, shared integrated library system. The speaker describes the migration from the perspective of a large academic library that was in the first of four migration cohorts. Topics covered include the motivations for migrating to Alma/Primo as a consortium, the implementation process, key post-migration wins, lessons learned, and migration tips and tricks.

The End of Nostradamus: Killing Predictive Check-In Without Feeling Guilty

Computer systems for receiving serial issues have existed for over 50 years. Their functionality has gradually become more complex and predictive. A new generation of check-in systems is currently being developed, some of which have decided to include less-complex check-in systems. The presenters discuss the history of check-in systems, and give case studies of two new systems that have chosen a simpler design for serials receiving.     

Hacking the Collection: Changing the Collection in Response to a Migration

Abstract

In 2016, the Munday Library at St. Edward’s University migrated to a new discovery layer. The Library had been an EBSCO Discovery Services (EDS) customer for six years, and the migration to Ex Libris’s Alma-Primo negatively impacted content discovery and collection usage due to issues with EBSCO’s proprietary metadata and Primo’s OpenURL link resolver. This article discusses switching the library’s collection using collection data analysis to respond to the change in discovery layer. The data-informed changes made to the collection improved collection usability and access.
