This study investigated the flow of interest in a reading-to-write activity. It was hypothesized that (a) different contents in a text would stimulate different types of interest and (b) different writing tasks would impact differently students’ use of interesting text segments. Participants were 247 11th- and 12th-grade students, who were divided into 6 groups according to a 2 (interesting vs. uninteresting topic) × 3 (type of writing task) design. While reading, students rated novelty, curiosity, impressiveness, importance, and willingness to reflect on each text segment. Participants were then assigned to one of three writing tasks, namely argumentation, text designing, and composition. Results showed that concepts were regarded as important, events/activities as impressive, and evaluations as most worthy of reflection. Topic interest was explicitly expressed mainly in the argumentation condition, where increased topic interest scores after reading and writing were also found. 相似文献

In an earlier study by the authors, full-text analysis and traditional bibliometric methods were combined to map research papers published in the journal Scientometrics. The main objective was to develop appropriate techniques of full-text analysis and to improve the efficiency of the individual methods in the mapping of science. The number of papers was, however, rather limited. In the present study, we extend the quantitative linguistic part of the previous studies to a set of five journals representing the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). Almost 1000 articles and notes published in the period 2002–2004 have been selected for this exercise. The optimum solution for clustering LIS is found for six clusters. The combination of different mapping techniques, applied to the full text of scientific publications, results in a characteristic tripod pattern. Besides two clusters in bibliometrics, one cluster in information retrieval and one containing general issues, webometrics and patent studies are identified as small but emerging clusters within LIS. The study is concluded with the analysis of cluster representations by the selected journals. 相似文献

This paper reports on the Video Viewing Task (VVT), an assessment designed to measure teachers' developing understanding of two reading comprehension instruction approaches: Reciprocal Teaching (Palincsar, A. S. & Brown, A. L. (1984). Reciprocal teaching of comprehension-fostering and comprehension-monitoring activities. Cognition and Instruction, 1(2), 117–175) and Questioning the Author (Beck, I. L., McKeown, M. G., Hamilton, R. L., & Kucan, L. (1997). Questioning the author: An approach for enhancing student engagement with text. Newark, DE: International Reading Association). The VVT consists of video excerpts that teachers view and comment on during their viewing. The VVT also includes a series of questions to guide teachers' reflections after viewing. Analyses of teachers' comments and reflections in response to the VVT provide evidence that the VVT captures teachers' entering conceptions and is sensitive to changes in teachers' developing understanding following professional development specific to the two instructional approaches. 相似文献

In the present study results of an earlier pilot study by Glenisson, Glänzel and Persson are extended on the basis of larger sets of papers. Full text analysis and traditional bibliometric methods are serially combined to improve the efficiency of the two individual methods. The text mining methodology already introduced in the pilot study is applied to the complete publication year 2003 of the journal Scientometrics. Altogether 85 documents that can be considered research articles or notes have been selected for this exercise. The outcomes confirm the main results of the pilot study, namely, that such hybrid methodology can be applied to both research evaluation and information retrieval. Nevertheless, Scientometrics documents published in 2003 cover a much broader and more heterogeneous spectrum of bibliometrics and related research than those analysed in the pilot study. A modified subject classification based on the scheme used in an earlier study by Schoepflin and Glänzel has been applied for validation purposes. 相似文献

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks integrate autonomous computing resources without requiring a central coordinating authority, which
makes them a potentially robust and scalable model for providing federated search capability to large-scale networks of text-based
digital libraries. However, peer-to-peer networks have so far provided very limited support for full-text federated search
with relevance-based document ranking. This paper provides solutions to full-text federated search of text-based digital libraries
in hierarchical peer-to-peer networks. Existing approaches to full-text search are adapted and new methods are developed for
the problems of resource representation, resource selection, and result merging according to the unique characteristics of
hierarchical peer-to-peer networks. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approaches offer a better combination
of accuracy and efficiency than more common alternatives for federated search of text-based digital libraries in peer-to-peer

The use of text-based chatbots offering individual support to customers has increased steadily in recent years. However, thus far, research has focused on comparing text-based chatbots with either each other or with humans, whilst the investigation of task-based dialogues has been scarce. This paper aims to identify the characteristics of dialogues – that is, conversational elements – that lead to a successful task-based conversation. For this purpose, the chatbot, KIM, by MAGGI Kochstudio was used. It was designed to help customers find a recipe tailored to their individual needs. In order to investigate which conversational elements contribute to successful communication between the user and the chatbot KIM, a usability study collecting 123 unstructured dialogues and a scenario-based experiment using four dialogues with 627 respondents was conducted. The quantitative analysis demonstrates that task completion is characterized by a higher perception of the chatbot’s conversational ability and user satisfaction. The chatbot should propose correct recipe suggestions following a short dialogue, without the user needing to provide too much input. Based on these findings, we recommended equipping the skillset of task-based chatbots with elements that will complement their assistive qualities – for example, improved use of standard phrases, and reactions to similar domains and non-requests.
