Evaluating a technology supported interactive response system during the laboratory section of a histology course

Monitoring of student learning through systematic formative assessment is important for adjusting pedagogical strategies. However, traditional formative assessments, such as quizzes and written assignments, may not be sufficiently timely for making adjustments to a learning process. Technology supported formative assessment tools assess student knowledge, allow for immediate feedback, facilitate classroom dialogues, and have the potential to modify student learning strategies. As an attempt to integrate technology supported formative assessment in the laboratory section of an upper‐level histology course, the interactive application Learning Catalytics^TM, a cloud‐based assessment system, was used. This study conducted during the 2015 Histology courses at Cornell University concluded that this application is helpful for identifying student misconceptions “on‐the‐go,” engaging otherwise marginalized students, and forming a new communication venue between students and instructors. There was no overall difference between grades from topics that used the application and grades from those that did not, and students reported that it only slightly helped improve their understanding of the topic (3.8 ± 0.99 on a five‐point Likert scale). However, they highly recommended using it (4.2 ± 0.71). The major limitation was regarding the image display and graphical resolution of this application. Even though students embrace the use of technology, 39% reported benefits of having the traditional light microscope available. This cohort of students led instructors to conclude that the newest tools are not always better, but rather can complement traditional instruction methods. 高校图书馆微信公众平台使用情况的调查与分析——以北京、上海8所211高校为例

通过对北京、上海8所211高校图书馆微信公众平台使用情况的调查,分析了大学生使用图书馆微信平台频率较低的原因。建议提高高校图书馆微信公众平台的认知度,构建丰富的微信平台信息内容体系,规范信息推送的时间和频率,并结合自身馆情向大学生提供个性化信息服务。     

日本“拉面”杂说

日本式的"拉面",是近代日本的产物,源于中国的汤面而最后演变成了具有浓郁日本风味的面类食物,是一种结合了中国和日本诸多食文化元素后形成的独特的食品,是日本将外来食物日本化的一个典型。从"拉面"形成的历史以及它的现状可以看出日本人对食物的嗜好倾向和近代日本人对外来文化的态度。     

‘Pervy role-play and such’: girls' experiences of sexual messaging online

Sexting is one of the recurring causes of concern in public discussion of young people and network media. This paper builds on findings from a survey with 1269 Finnish female respondents aged 11–18 conducted using a popular online community for girls on their experiences of and views on online messages concerning sex and sexuality. Sixty-five per cent of respondents had received messages related to sex from either adults or minors while 20% had also sent such messages themselves. The paper asks how girls experience and make sense of sexual messaging and what motivates them to engage in such interactions. Specific attention is paid to the distinction between unwanted and wanted messages. While messages from unknown people identified as adult were often discussed as unpleasant or ‘creepy’, sexual messaging, role-play, cybersex experiments and discussions related to sex among peers were defined as fun and pleasurable. Girls display notable resilience and describe coping strategies connected to unwanted messaging but equally frame sexual messaging and role-play as issues of choice motivated by curiosity and pleasure. The paper addresses sexual messaging as a form of sexual play and learning, and argues for the importance of contextual analysis in understanding its forms and potentialities.     

中国古代的水煮方便食品:棋子面与挂面

棋子面最早出现于《齐民要术》,是一种状如棋子、蒸熟以备不时水煮食用的方便食品。唐宋元明各代多作为军食,其烹熟方式也衍生出炒、油煎等,后世又作为幼儿方便食品。近代的"棋子面"则多了一种擀切为菱形的面片。"挂面"一词始出《饮膳正要》,但在唐代敦煌文献中即有"须面"称谓,元代文献也称之为"索面"。是一种水煮方便条状粉食。     

‘You shouldn’t be making people feel bad about having sex’: exploring young adults’ perceptions of a sex-positive sexual health text message intervention

Young adults are disproportionately affected by negative sexual health outcomes, such as sexually transmitted infections. One strategy for reducing such negative outcomes involves the use of comprehensive sexual health education. As comprehensive sexual health education programmes are adopted, there is a need to evaluate the messaging approaches that might best connect with young people. Sex-positive approaches, which describe sex as a healthy practice and personal choice, are becoming popular, but whether this strategy works has not been tested from a message design perspective. This study examines the reactions of young adults to sex-positive or sex-negative messages, framed as a gain or loss, designed for a text message-based intervention. Participants quantitatively evaluated 24 messages on their mobile phones. Gain frames were preferred over loss frames, and sex-positive messages were rated as more believable and persuasive. An interaction between the two concepts was also found. Results highlight how sex-positive messages that focus on the benefits of certain behaviours tend to resonate better with young adults. Implications for health educators and practitioners are discussed.     

互惠分组教学模式在初级剑术教学中的实验研究

本文运用目前国外流行的互惠分组教学模式，对沈阳大学2001级6个班200名女生进行实验研究。结果显示，互惠分组教学优于传统教学模式，学生的技术提高幅度明显高于传统教学模式，而且更有利于形成生动活泼的课堂气氛，激发学生的学习热情。
