侨乡宗族文教活动管窥(1911—1949)——以开平县司徒氏为例

文章以民国时期赤坎发行的司徒氏族刊---《教伦月刊》为基本史料,侧重考察民国时期开平县赤坎镇司徒氏的主要文教活动。通过考察发现,在海外华侨的支持下,侨乡宗族教育在内容和形式上均有了新的发展,他们顺应时代潮流,开办学校,设立图书馆,设立促进教育的专门机构,开展文体活动,在发展学校教育和社会教育方面成绩突出,为侨乡文教事业的发展作出了巨大贡献。     

Diaolou： Watchtowers of Kaiping

My surprising experience began at the balcony on the top of a residence in Zili Village, Kaiping County, the coastalprovince of Guangdong in southern China. A plethora of tall concrete buildings featuring European styles of ancient Greece and Rome quietly stood in the countryside field, looking eccentric, unique and well-fit in the soft morning sunshine. At the residence gate, I saw three black Chinese calligraphic characters reading ＂Yun Huan Lou＂ （tower of cloudy illusion）.
