ABSTRACT This study used the 2017 Las Vegas and 2016 Orlando mass shootings as case studies to explore alleged double standards in reporting of events featuring Muslim and non-Muslim mass perpetrators of violence. The study used framing theory and content analysis to examine Los Angeles Times and New York Times coverage of the shootings during the one week immediately following each event. Findings are consistent with previous literature and the researchers’ expectations. The Orlando shooting, carried out by a Muslim, was allotted more coverage despite the fact that it produced nine fewer fatalities than the Las Vegas shooting, perpetrated by a white non-Muslim. The analysis also showed that the examined newspapers were more likely to employ a “terrorism” frame in their coverage of the Orlando shooting than in their coverage of the Las Vegas shooting; link the Orlando mass shooting with the global war on terrorism; and to humanize Stephen Paddock, the white perpetrator of the Las Vegas shooting. Framing differences found in this study may contribute to downplaying the threat of white male gun violence, and to reinforcing fears of Islam and Muslims. 相似文献

[目的/意义]对反恐情报中的时空轨迹数据进行伴随模式挖掘,可以发现涉恐群体的同时间段动态空间位置移动规律。[方法/过程]根据反恐情报数据的特点,修改经典伴随模式挖掘方法中的相似度度量方式和聚类方式,不断迭代完成"聚类和取交集"操作,将满足条件的涉恐活动时空轨迹伴随模式导出。[结果/结论]该方法能够挖掘涉恐群体的同步移动路径,定位重点活动地点,分析涉恐人员之间的亲近度,为打击暴恐活动提供数据参考。 相似文献

[研究目的]反恐情报信息决策性证据的获取工作对反恐斗争的成败有着决定性的作用,故在此针对反恐情报信息决策性证据的智能检索机制展开研究。[研究方法]分析反恐情报信息的特征及反恐情报信息决策性证据在反恐决策中的作用,研究当前常用的反恐情报信息决策性证据检索方式与不足,针对已有检索方式的缺陷,为满足智能检索机制所需,提出并构建基于本体的反恐情报信息决策性证据智能检索机制,构建包含本体管理模块、用户问题处理模块、资源管理模块及智能检索主体模块等智能检索机制,并通过构建该智能检索机制实证模型,对该智能检索机制展开实证分析。[研究结论]结果表明,该智能检索机制的可靠性、安全性、可存取性、交互性及隐私性每提高1%,将会对反恐情报信息决策性证据获取成功率提高0.7701%~2.7990%,可为反恐情报信息分析与处理部门获取实时决策性证据奠定基础。 相似文献

Recently, there has been a heavy debate in the US about the government’s use of data mining in its fight against terrorism.
Privacy concerns in fact led the Congress to terminate the funding of TIA, a program for advanced information technology to
be used in the combat of terrorism. The arguments put forward in this debate, more specifically those found in the main report
and minority report by the TAPAC established by the Secretary of Defense to examine the TIA issue, will be analysed to trace
the deeper roots of this controversy. This analysis will in turn be used as a test case to examine the adequacy of the usual
theoretical frameworks for these kinds of issues, in particular the notion of privacy. Whereas the dominant theoretical framing
of the notion of privacy turns around access to information, most of the core arguments in the debate do not fit in this kind of framework. The basic disagreements in
the controversy are not about mere access, they involve both access and use. Furthermore, whereas the issue of access by itself refers to a more or less static situation, the real disagreements much
more concern the organisational dynamics of the use of information, the mechanisms in the organisation that control these
dynamics, and the awareness present within the organisation of the ‘social risks’ these dynamics represent. The bottom line
question is whether the assessment of these gives sufficient reason for trust. 相似文献
