Recording the war effort: immigrant communities in Latin America and the memory of the Great War

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to analyse the initiatives undertaken by some immigrant communities residing in Latin America to record their mobilisation around the First World War. After the armistice, European communities in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and other countries gathered detailed information about their activities during the conflict, published as profusely illustrated books of remembrance, offered to their governments as proof of their loyalty. The article intends to establish the peculiar nature of these publications as records of the war effort, and analyse the agents and processes of their elaboration, and their role as commemorative but also as archival documents.

Olympics,Media and Politics: The First Olympic Ideas in Brazilian Society During the Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries

Abstract

The Olympic Games of the modern era are powerful global mediated events. Olympic cities receive an overwhelming examination by world media. As the 2016 Olympic host, Rio de Janeiro has been given an enormous amount of attention, both by the international media and researchers who looked at the urban spaces of Rio, the struggles over the hegemony of the city and the social meanings the Olympics bring to the host city’s citizens. However, studies over the historical relationship between Rio, sport and media are rare. This paper addresses the historical uses of the term Olympic by Brazilian media during the late nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries. By looking at the main articles in the newspapers of these periods, we examine the extent to which ideologies over sports have changed the way the Olympics were represented in Brazil’s national imaginary. We demonstrate how the use of expressions associated with the Olympics historically generated a closer appreciation of these events by the public. We also show how political authorities appropriated the Olympics for their own benefit. The paper concludes by asking whether or not the historical lessons from the early Olympic ideas in Brazil have been learned by the 2016 Rio Games organizers.

《爱与其他魔鬼》是哥伦比亚著名作家加西亚·马尔克斯的中篇小说。小说的女主人公希尔瓦象征着拉美土地上由欧洲一基督教文化、印第安文化和非洲文化融合而成的拉美新文化。从当时拉美社会几种有代表性的人物对这种新文化的不同心态 ,可以看出拉美新文化与其他几种文化发生的碰撞以及由此造成的文化悲剧。     

Paulo Freire’s ideas as an alternative to higher education neo-liberal reforms in Latin America

This article examines the principal arguments found in the work of Paulo Freire concerning policy and ethics in the field of higher education in Latin America. It critically analyzes the university reform in Latin America dominated by the thought and practice promoted by various international financial institutions (such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank [IDB]) beginning in the 1980s and then looks at the feasibility of an alternative Freirian view. The work of Paulo Freire celebrated the liberating role that public university education should play in the training of citizens and professionals, that is with a critical and ethical conscience, committed to the needs of the locality, region and the world. All this is in clear opposition to what has happened to Latin American universities, influenced by neo-liberal reforms over the last decades.

在领导拉美独立战争的过程中,玻利瓦尔提出并实施了拉美联合反殖斗争的思想。正是在这一思想的指导下,拉美人民赢得了独立解放战争的胜利。这一思想还对后来拉美的联合也产生了巨大的指导作用。

泛美医学院校协会(PAFAMS)董事PA Pulido等人撰文[Medical Teacher,2006,28(1):24-29]分析了拉丁美洲医学教育的多种影响因素,认为该地区的医学院校无计划地高速增长,质量得不到有效保障,卫生人力分布不合理.他们认为开展医学院校认证是解决上述问题的一条途径,并介绍了该地区医学院校认证的进展情况和趋势.     

浅析郑州市部分高校拉丁舞专业拉丁舞课程考核方式的现状

近年来,拉丁舞运动愈发活跃,不仅成为各大高校开设课程的热门专业,还是课后深受大学生们欢迎的健身项目。随着高校拉丁舞课程的开设,系统的教学与训练是实现拉丁舞人才培养的重要环节。考核办法是构成教学体系的重要组成部分,教学的进步离不开对于课程内容考核方法的优化和更新,才能使得拉丁舞专业得到更好的发展。本文通过文献资料法、问卷调查法、访谈法以及数理分析法,以郑州市部分高校拉丁舞专业拉丁舞课程考核方式的现状为研究方向,结合郑州市部分高校拉丁舞课程考核方式,分析出目前郑州市部分高校的拉丁舞考核方式现状,通过以学生为主体的考核角度出发,以构建出合适现代化发展需求的拉丁舞考核方式为目的,针对各大高校拉丁舞课程的期末考核方式进行可行性的分析。
