本文从系统功能的概念隐喻视域出发,通过实例分析,从及物性系统中的过程类型转换、环境成分转换、参与者转换来探讨英语笑话的生成,且分析得出,及物过程中各成分的不一致是大量英语笑话产生的主要原因,这不仅为英语笑话的研究提供了一个新的视角,而且也有助于英语习得者更好地掌握与应用英语语言,提高鉴赏英语笑话的能力。

性欲是人的本性之一,具体而言指人们日常生活中不可或缺的生理需求。因此,段子的基本编创原则之一是拿"性"作比。其原理是,努力寻找本体与喻体之间的相似点或相关点,使人觉得取喻巧妙,其中不能不使人感到民间的集体智慧。它有以"性"为喻体与以其他生活事象为喻体而以"性"为本体两种情形。段子的编创策略之一是捕捉、设置或者制造误会巧合,造成悬念,从而在出人意料之外营构乐观的氛围,以达到引人发笑的喜剧性效果。

The Office was asking for it: “that’s what she said” as a joke cycle that perpetuates rape culture

In this essay, we argue that the popular joke, “that’s what she said” is a symbolic representation of rape that contributes to and insulates rape culture. Drawing on Joseph Boskin’s notion of the “joke cycle” and extant literature on rape culture and misogynistic humor, we critique several instances of the joke on the popular television series The Office. From there, we extend our critique of the joke cycle, noting the conspicuous absence of concern over the joke and its implications in other scholarly treatments of the program. Our primary contention is that the joke cycle, which may be the most prominent cycle in recent decades, reinscribes rape culture by normalizing discourses that dismiss and silence rape victims, justify violence against women, and even blame victims for having been assaulted. “That’s what she said” avoids the critical eye because it disguises itself as a joke like any other.

万荣笑话是成长于黄土高原上的一支幽默之花,它大约产生于明清时期,由“谢村挣”演化而成,具有创作群体广泛、大巧若拙、藏智显愚、违反逻辑、与时俱进、寓教于笑等特点,集中表现了万荣人争强好胜、幽默诙谐的民风。万荣笑话同时也是万荣人智慧的结晶和万荣社会发展的民间史书,是万荣精神的抽象与表达。     

Eigentaste: A Constant Time Collaborative Filtering Algorithm

Eigentaste is a collaborative filtering algorithm that uses universal queries to elicit real-valued user ratings on a common set of items and applies principal component analysis (PCA) to the resulting dense subset of the ratings matrix. PCA facilitates dimensionality reduction for offline clustering of users and rapid computation of recommendations. For a database of n users, standard nearest-neighbor techniques require O(n) processing time to compute recommendations, whereas Eigentaste requires O(1) (constant) time. We compare Eigentaste to alternative algorithms using data from Jester, an online joke recommending system.Jester has collected approximately 2,500,000 ratings from 57,000 users. We use the Normalized Mean Absolute Error (NMAE) measure to compare performance of different algorithms. In the Appendix we use Uniform and Normal distribution models to derive analytic estimates of NMAE when predictions are random. On the Jester dataset, Eigentaste computes recommendations two orders of magnitude faster with no loss of accuracy. Jester is online at: http://eigentaste.berkeley.edu
