20世纪中西方文化始终处于一种较为紧张的对峙状态，这构成20世纪中国文学民族化的基本背景，新文学的民族化在第一个十年取得的成功与此后所遭受的挫折均可以在此背景下得到解释，随着中国综合国力的进一步增强，中西文化交流环境必将进一步宽松，新世纪中国文学民族进化程也必将进一步加速。

Retrospect and Prospects --On Nationalization of Modern Chinese Literature

In the 20th century the Chinese and Western Cultures confronted each other in a comparatively tense situation which constituted the background of the nationalization of Chinese literature in the last century. Explanation of why the nationalization movement achieved success in the first decades and met with twists and setbacks in later years can be found against this setting. With the increasing of national comprehensive force, the cultural interchange between China and the West will be certain to grow more freely and with fewer restrictions. The new century will witness further speed - up of the progress of nationalization in Chinese Literature.
