On Gorbachev's Political Openness

Gorbachev advanced the political openness, which was determined by both objective and subjective factors. The measures are concerned with politics, ideology and society. However, the consequences were fatal, resulting in the extreme abuse of historical nihilism; the Soviet Communist Party had gradually lost control of the press; informal organizations came into being and developed rapidly, forming an organized opposition faction and making the national contradiction more explicit. All this made the open campaign become the fuse and catalyst of the disintegration of the former Soviet Union.
