Combining Michel Foucault's theory of heterotopia and relationship between power and space,the article attempts to analyze significance of space in Joyce Carol Oates's fiction in both form and theme.In form,Oates's fictions tally with the six features of Foucault's heterotopia.In theme,Oates's heterotopia is imbued with violence of religion,racism and male chauvinism.
