英汉语言差异在哲学作品隐喻翻译中的应用——以《论等待》里的句子隐喻为例

隐喻在语言中广泛存在。笔者根据On Waiting一书的翻译实践,指出隐喻翻译在哲学作品翻译中的突出地位,引入隐喻及相关翻译理论,结合英汉语言的特点与差异,从句子这一意义单位入手,利用钱钟书隐喻的两柄多边理论,从原著有关等待的隐喻中选取三种类比隐喻,探讨句子隐喻的翻译方法。进而指出不同民族大量隐喻的文化重合现象,翻译时应保留原形象以直观重现本、喻体间的关联,并尊重译入语特点实现译作的流畅性、趣味性、可读性与感染力。

Application of Language Differences Between English and Chinese to Metaphor Translation of Philosophical Works With Metaphorical Sentences in On Waiting as Examples

Metaphor is pervasive in language.Based on her experience in translating On Waiting,the author notes metaphor translation is crucial in translating philosophical works.Proceeding from metaphor studies and related translation theories,this paper combines characteristics of English and Chinese languages and their differences and studies sentential metaphor,since the sentence is the meaning unit.It selects three analogue metaphors from metaphors related to waiting in the original work and discusses translation approaches of metaphorical sentences,according to Qian Zhongshu’s "two handles and multiple sides" theory of metaphor.It also indicates cultural overlaps reflected in innumerable metaphors in languages of different nations and advises that the original image should be retained in translation and the correlation between the tenor and the vehicle should be embodied visually.Furthermore,characteristics of the target language should be respected so as to realize fluency,interest,readability and appeal of a translation.
