Abstract: | The potential of silicon nitride as an exceptional engineering material in high temperature situations has been recognised for some thirty years. Applications have been slow, however, for a variety of reasons — including high cost, problems of fabrication and shaping, and the difficulty of obtaining reproducible results. Nevertheless, substantial progress has been made and this article reviews current achievements and future prospects. |
