As a leader in literature in the transitional period o f Tang Dynasty, Zhang Shuo's idea on literature stressed on both literary grace and understanding. He never looked down upon the ancients, at the same time he t reated the comments on literature at his time equally. He influenced the style o f writing in Kaiyuan period, and it put forward the concept on literature in flo urished Tang Dynasty.
