Abstract:The main goal of the FUDAN-UIUC advanced training and research seminar on philosophy of education is to investigate the philosophic foundation for modern pedagogy, the dilemma it encounters and the possible solutions. By studying the works of Plato, Rousseau and Dewey, we find that the key idea underlying the theory of western philosophy of education is autonomy.
