On the Rhetoric Aspects of Narrative in Poe's Short Novels

Edgar Ellan Poe, an American writer in 19th century, is a unique one. He was born in a wrong era, but now he got much attention of many theory discourses in modern critic theory context. There are two rhetoric anamorphoses in Poe's novels about "say this but refer to that": allegory and irony. The former pays close attention to the interior meaning under the exterior meaning, but the latter reckons with the expressing attitude of the narrator. The irony makes Poe's novels have such features as humor and comic effects.
