Global Engineering Ethics as Skilled Performance

Guided by ethics,engineering professionals,as a responsible group provide lasting service to their communities.The contemporary global framework requires engineers to pursue deliberate engagement with the larger social world in order to persuade it of the common needs for social utility,soundness,and civic appropriation.Engineering itself is a skilled performance centered on independent analysis and design.Ethicists must foster the engineers' articulation of their specific practice,of the phenomenology of the development of engineering skills,and of their expert intuitive judgment.Engineers and nonengineers must articulate how engineering practice offers both ethics and society in general a program for the disciplined development of the professional's activities in wide-ranging service to society and its future.
