Abstract:Journals treat information in a peculiar manner. Now, online publishing is forcing rapid mutation of the journal's inherently volatile genetic code. This paper proposes a sequence of mutation, and discusses the evolutionary forces at work and how publishers can themselves adapt when faced with mutant journals.
