在人与人交往当中,人们总要实施一定的言语行为,满足一定的交际目的。为了达到既定的交往意图,说话人往往会采用间接的、含蓄的、礼貌的方式来表达话语。情态系统的选用是其中的主要方法之一。如何选用情态表达法来有效地遵循礼貌原则,提高礼貌程度,保证交际的顺利进行,这则与情态系统的量值大小有着极其重要的关系。研究表明情态系统的量值影响并且制约着人们表达话语时的礼貌等级。

Influence and Control of Values of Modality over Politeness Scales

In communicating with each other, human beings always perform illocutionary acts and thus satisfy needs of communication. In order to do this, the addressers usually express themselves effectively in an indirect, reticent, and polite way, and the choice of system of modality is one of the essential ways. How to select modality forms so as to abide by politeness principles, to improve politeness quality, and therefore to guarantee smooth communications is greatly determined by the values of modality. This study shows the values place great influence on and have a control of the politeness scales when people interact.
