Some Characteristics of Landscape Paintings from the Yuan Dynasty

In the Yuan Dynasty,the Han people were reduced to a very low standing in the society,and many scholars escaped in retiring to praise the beauty among the mountains,which gave impetus to a return to the essence of arts.Thus,the Yuan landscape paintings have these characteristics: painters were scholars whose pursuit was above the common taste;the center of arts was away from the capital;and the development of the southern school on the simplistic style of the tradition.
