霍桑擅长探索人的复杂心理和罪恶对人造成的道德、情感、心理上的影响,笔下的人物大多是圆形人物.文章试图从一个新的视角来分析霍桑代表作<红字>中三个主要人物的形象和性格,进而揭示霍桑笔下人物性格的复杂性和多面性.

Reflection on the Complexity of the Personality of the Characters in Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter"

Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the forerunners of 19th century American romanticism. He is good at probing into deep,complex human psychology and what he often deals with is the effect of sin on human morality,feeling and psychology. Most of his characters are of round characters.Through the analysis of three major characters in Hawthorne's masterpiece "The Scarlet Letter ",this thesis aims at revealing the complex and multifaceted personality of the characters created by Hawthorne.
