| Abstract: | This is a report on a study of learning strategies training for non-majors. The purpose of the study was to see the effectiveness of strategies training in the non-major field. Three types of English learning strategies were involved in the study, namely, the metacognitive goal-setting, the cognitive reading skills and the social learning. The choice of them was based on the analysis of a questionnaire designed to tap the students' present use of strategies and also on the practical demand by the syllabus. The training lasted ten weeks (6 hours per week), and activities were provided for the transfer of the new strategies to other similar situations. |
