'Knocking on the school door': pupils in the Netherlands with Down's Syndrome enter regular education
Abstract:In the Netherlands in the last decade, the number of pupils with Down's Syndrome integrated into regular schools has been growing. Previously such pupils were referred to special schools, and this research, undertaken by Annette Scheepstra, Sip Jan Pijl, and Professor Han Nakken from the University of Groningen, describes the steps taken by parents to apply for regular education placements; the decision-making of the school teams; and the differences between these parents and other parents with pupils in regular education.
