1. Before the elevator was invented in the late 1800 's, buildings were much smaller and less tall, as people did not want to walk up and down stairs all day. With the invention of the elevator, came high-rise buildings and skyscrapers. 18世纪后期发明电梯以前,建筑物小多了而且远没有这么高,因为人们不想整天爬上爬下。随着电梯的发明,出现了高层建筑和摩天大楼。
