On the Nature and Features of "Institutional Research

The study of universities and colleges i.e. institutional research, is a kind of research mode in which science based methods and models (especially the quantitative analysis methods and models) are adopted under certain theoretical guidance for making analysis and evaluation of the problems in the operating process of an individual institution of higher learning and providing direct reference to the policy makers of the institution. Moreover, the "institutional research" is specially characterized by its diversified contents and scope and by its science based and quantitative methods. Viewing from the research objects, the "institutional research" is a kind of case study. In terms of research task, the "institutional research" is aimed at finding solutions to the specific problems in a university or college. The "institutional research" is also featured by its specialized and systematic subjects and its direct and comprehensive functions.
