“参差”疑义探析

王念孙认为"参差"无"长"义,又有人认为无"艳丽"义。其实,"参差"一词可描写形貌、色彩、声音、情感、感觉、质地等等,几乎无所不可,其意义随所描写事物的特点而变化,可表示长、高大、遥远、凌乱、整齐、绚烂、美丽、悲伤、欣喜、孤寂等意思;"参差"在与光、远、嫩、香、红、绿、好、苦、凉等构成"形容词+参差"或"参差+形容词"的形式时,其含义随形容词的意义而变化,相当于词尾,起表程度之作用。
