Lin Shu,the chief writer in the novel-writing history and also an anti-trend hero in defending traditional culture in the Republic of China,has always been recognized as one of the greatest men of letters whose achievement "can weigh his contemporaries and win trust of his successors".His achievements are far more than being recognized as a translation genius.Titles such as "the king of the translation field" and "the leading authority of the translation forum" cannot summarize his historical position.With the time passing by,greater and greater appraisals have been set on Lin Shu.Together with Lin Ze-xun,the "political giant",and Yan Fu,the "ideological giant",undoubtedly Lin Shu should be labeled as the "cultural giant".These three were the pioneers who proceeded ahead of their time.
