| Abstract: | This paper summarizes the semantic features of euphemism on both lexical and syntactical basis, analyses how people are motivated rhetorically and pragmatically in using this figure, and concludes that euphemism should be treated not only as a linguistic device but also as a human thought pattern, which has both positive and negative aspects. |
