Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths was the first person who put forward the idea of ancient Olympic Games revival.His passion for the ancient Greek culture and the Olympics not only built the German iron constitution but also promoted the development of modern school sport.He published Gymnastik für die Jugend,the first textbook for school sport,which provided way to achieve young people’s all-round development.With the theory of selection material,this article discusses the origin of this Father of Modern Sport’s educational ideal,analyzes the intrinsic value and characteristic of his thoughts and talks about his contribution to the modern school sport,which aims to find some positive impacts to perfect the school sport of our country.
