Abstract: | With 1km × 1km grid for the basic unit ,the evaluation factors such as the traffic network in-dex ,waters index ,school services index ,living influence index and land surface index are chosen . Based on GIS setting up Chuzhou city human settlements environment index (HEI) model ,the natural environment suitability of human settlements and the spatial regularity are evaluated .The results show that :Chuzhou city human settlements environment index decreases from center to edge ,w hich reflects population density is significantly correlated with population density at grid size and the R 2 value for them amounts to 0 .8361 .Chuzhou city residential environment suitability assessment showed that Chuzhou city's general appropriate area is above 132km2 ,close to 2 .96% of the city area ,the corre-sponding population accounts to 8 .75% of it ,and 3 .3% of the population gathered in highly and rela-tively suitable human settlements environment . T he critical suitable region covering the area of 698 km2 ,accounts for 15 .69% of the city ,and there are 39 .33 million people live in this region ,accounts for 24 .21% of the city .555 people per square kilometers is the Chuzhou residential environment appro-priate or not by the transition region .T here are 3619km2 of the non -suitable region in Chuzhou city with the 108 .91 million population ,accounting for the city area by 81 .35% ,population density for 303 people/km2 ,below the city average level of 365 people/km2 . |
