民族文化传统与美国高等教育现代化进程探析

Analysis of National Cultural Tradition and the Modernization of Higher Education in the United States

Since the colonial times, American higher education has been influenced by ethnic demography, individualism, pragmatism, democracy and pluralism. By comparing and drawing on successful experiences in developing higher education, the United State witnessed modernization of its own higher education in four stages from its initiation, its basis formation, its rapid advances and its further development, which is characterized by pragmatism, democracy, innovation and diversity, and four development characteristics. Research on the development of American tertiary education served to deepen our understanding of higher education reform and development.
