Developing an Outreach Program Based on Freedom Songs

SUMMARY

The Flint Public Library developed the grant funded program, “The Power of Song: Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me 'Round,” to provide young people with in-depth exposure to the creative and purposeful aspects of the protest traditions of African-American freedom songs. The project used the resources of the Library to promote individual student and community research.
