翻译是科学和艺术的统一,这是翻译的本质所决定的。翻译的本质存在于翻译的常规性、可授性、创造性、灵活性、艰难性,以及翻译才能的天赋性。之所以人们对翻译是科学还是艺术争论不休,是因为人们在考察和研究翻译的时候,割裂了科学和艺术的统一,只注意到了翻译的一方面,而忽视了翻译的另一方面。在翻译实践过程中,只运用科学或只运用艺术都无法完成翻译的全过程,起码不会是一个完美的过程。
