语文规范不宜笼统地说成语文改革

语言文字为了适应社会的需要而不断地调整和完善自己,我们把这种调整和完善叫做语文规范化。现在有人提出“改革汉语”的主张,这个提法是不科学的。“改革”是一种改变,而语言可以调整完善但不可以改变。“改革汉语”论者认为“汉语落后”、“汉语不如英语”,是因为他对语言知识的贫乏。要想使汉语在世界上占有一席之地,除了提高国力以外,惟有使汉语进一步规范化。

The Standardization of Chinese Language Should not Be Generally Considered as the Reform of the Language

To meet the needs of the society, a language continuously adjusts and perfects itself, this is called the standardization of language."Reforming the Chinese language", a present proposal by some, is not scientific. A language can be adjusted and perfected but not changed. Owing to their lack of knowledge about Chinese language, those holding the idea of "reforming the Chinese language" consider that"the Chinese language is backward", and "Chinese is inferior to English". The only way for the Chinese language to acquire a position in the world is the standardization, of the language besides enhancing national strength.
