| Abstract: | This paper investigates the causes of pragmatic failure in intercultural communication. Previous studies focused on the cultural difference. The present paper attempts to point out that the two different modes of thought in English and Chinese and the stereotypes in intercultural communication are also the causes of pragmatic failure. Thus the scope of pragmatic failure study is widened. |
