单独出现的词语、例句, 有时译起来很棘手。这是因为缺乏语境, 难以确定所指;还因为文化, 在原作者以为是常识的, 译者却甚陌生。要使译作能正确传达原作的意思, 译者除勤翻词典, 利用机会向原文本族语者请教外, 还要学点语用学, 不断增强文化敏感性。本文略举作者在翻译中碰到的几个例子, 以资讨论。

Context, Culture and Translation of Grammar Examples

When a word or a sentence appears as an example without context, it is sometimes a hard nut to crack. This is because the lack of context makes it difficult to confirm the reference. It is also because of different cultures. Translators are not always familiar with words or expressions rich with cultural content in the original work.. Thus, cultural awareness and pragmatics knowledge are important for translators in order to deliver the meaning of the original work faithfully and correctly. This paper quotes several examples to show these points.
