Analysis of English Translation Versions of the Introduction to Relics in Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses

How to give prominence to the informative function in translation so as to guarantee the authenticity and accuracy of the message conveyed by the target text？ Nida holds that accuracy of content should not be judged primarily in terms of ＂being true＂ to the author,but in not causing misunderstanding of the message by those for whom the translation is intend- ed. Therefore in translating informative text, a translator should do the job flexibly in language and style by employing a vari- ety of translation techniques so as to make the target language readers understand the message of the source text objectively and accurately. The introduction to relics in the Museum of Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses belongs to informative text, and there exist many problems in its English translation versions. This paper is going to make an objective analysis of the prob- lems under the guidance of translation theory and with the translation techniques.
