What Is Philosophy?

The gist of this thesis is concerned about what is philosophy. Through analyses of etymology, this thesis connects philosophy with truth and freedom, and thinks that freedom is the only circumstance in which phi losophy happens, it is embodied as the leisure. The thesis discusses the essence of the leisure in the sense of Greece. On this basis, the thesis further shows that it is surprise that awakens philosophic thinking. Surprise makes a freed ma n deeply into thinking. Pursued the basic circumstance and conditions in which ph i losophy happens, this thesis analyzes the philosophic thinking itself. It points out that as a theoretical thinking, philosophy essentially is a sacred kind of contemplation, through which the original and ture features of things get presen ted.
