In the United States, any institution that makes it to 100 years of age can celebrate a rare longevity. For a general medical textbook to be continuously published for 100 years is unique. In 1999, The Merck Manual celebrated its centenary with the publication of the seventeenth edition, making it the longest continuously published general medical textbook in the English language.
