| Abstract: | The goal of this paper is to seek a good algorithm to decrease theunnecessary soft handoff probability in order to reduce the soft handoff dis-tance, i. e. , to reduce the time of additional channel occupied by mobile sta-tion for implementing the soft handoff. We present a novel soft handoff algo-rithm contrast to Qualcomm's algorithm, i. e. , Triple Levelsi'algorithm,based on the signal strength received at mobile stations in a lognormal shadowfading environment. By analyzing and simulations, we find that the perfor-mance of Triple Ldvels' algorithm is prior to that of Qualcomm's algorithm.Triple Levels' algorithm can eliminate the unnecessary soft handoff, reducethe soft handoff distance, and directly decrease the extra capacity paid forthese unnecessary soft handoffs. |
