Contextual Interpretation of Metaphor

The interaction between context factors and semantic presuppositions indicated by linguistic vehicle of metaphor yields the proper perspective to interpret metaphor.This paper,through the analysis of the related semantic and contextual factors,proposes a tentative three-stage model,including deciding metaphoric understanding of certain expression,inference of the metaphor's intended meaning under certain perspective and the evaluation of the metaphor as a proposition.
