A Study of the Postbellum Black Women's life in American South (1863-1920)

Although the black women were free in the Civil War, they had still not received the true freedom. In the aspect of the occupational situation, the majority of them had to do the low-wages household work; as for the social status, they were at the lowest of the southern social pyramid. With the development of the black community, the change of the occupational choices and the self-consciousness of the black people, the southern black women rose to fight for the double equality in gender and race.
