近代西方教会在粤东客家地区的传播及其影响述略

以梅州为中心的粤东客家地区因其特殊的地理位置和人文环境,成为近代西方宗教势力发展的重要地区。西方宗教传入粤东客家地区,进一步激化了当地的社会矛盾,同时,他们也创办了一系列近代化的学校,传播了近代西方文化,特别是一些先进科学技术,培养了一批近代化人才,为粤东客家地区乃至整个广东的社会经济的发展和进步做出了贡献。西方传教士又把粤东地区的客家文化传入西方各国,在加强中西文化交流和了解方面起到了桥梁和纽带的作用。

The Spread and Influence of Western Religious Associations on the Hakka Region of Eastern Guangdong in Modern Times

The Hakka Region of eastern Guangdong with Meizhou as its center, featured by its distinctive geographical location and anthropological environment, became the major target of expansion by the western religious powers. On one hand, the spread of western religions aggravated the social conflicts. While on the other hand, the establishment of a series of modernized schools helped to bring about western culture, especially the advanced science and technology of western countries in modern times, and to educate many modernized talents, thus making contribution to the economic development of this region and the Guangdong area at large. Moreover, the western missionaries introduced the Hakka culture to the West and enhanced their understanding of the Hakkas. Therefore, we should acknowledge that western religions have contributed to the introduction of traditional Chinese culture, the Hakka culture in particular, and played a linking role in promoting the Sino western cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
