To Label or To Support: Comments on the Role of Diagnosis in Special Education in Germany

Abstract:Diagnostic procedures aimed at labelling, selection and placement in special schools of children designated in Germany as learning handicappedare compared with support and intervention‐oriented strategies; construction and administration of alternative diagnostic instruments and approaches such as inventories and surveys are examined.
