论约翰生在《塞维奇传》中的移情和同情

摘    要:莫洛亚认为传记是一种表现的手段,传记家选择传主是为了迎合他自己本性中的秘密需要。艾德尔认为莫洛亚的说法就是移情,而传记家要避免移情,应当对他的传主给予更多的同情。然而,在约翰生的《塞维奇传》中,既有约翰生站在自己的立场,把自己的情感投入传主塞维奇,通过传主来表述自己的移情成分,也有约翰生站在传主塞维奇的立场,设身处地为他着想,更深入地理解他的同情。

Abstract:Andre Maurois considered biography as a means of expression, and the biographer chose his subject in order to respond to a secret need in his/her own nature. Leon Edel thought empathy was exactly what Maurois was saying, while a biographer should avoid empathy and must be more sympathetic than empathic.
