On the Role of Nasal and Lateral in Chinese Character-Building Regularity

Through a reverse analysis of form, sound and meaning in two types of Chinese characters of whether initial consonant is nasal or lateral in Chinese characters, the research indicates that in characters with nasal initial consonant, the referent of the primary meaning is relevant to human being or it refers to referential meaning of human being itself, and that in characters with lateral initial consonant, the referent of the primary meaning is relevant to animals and plants, or abstract behavior, things and strip -shaped objects.
