Abstract: | Mathematics has long been at the core of engineering education. In more recent years its teaching has come under many pressures, including the effects of a less mathematically homogeneous entry. The problems that these pressures bring to the mathematics lecturer are described in the paper and some steps that are being taken to alleviate them are outlined. A brief introduction to the papers by members of the SEFI Mathematics Working Group is given. |
