A Novel of Initiation Fraught with Metaphor——Interpreting Kafka on the Shore

This paper is meant to be a close reading of Kafka on the Shore,written by the famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami.Starting with the metaphors in the novel and then suggesting possible ways of interpretation,the paper goes on to point out the implications of the hero's naming and the successful application of the Oedipus complex strategy often employed in western novels,both of which symbolize the author's retrospection of the initiation experience of human beings and trigger thoughts on contemporary people's own initiation process.
